i really dont mind halloween but when people start to dress up as Satanic things then thats where i draw the line. i once was told a story where this person came to a house and asked for a baby. somehow this family gave it up and this person used the baby's fat for the inside of a jack- o- lantern. i dont think it is true but who knows what happened. the pumpkin has come to symbolize the holiday as much as ghouls, goblins, ghosts, and witches. i guess it also depends on what you believe.

What Is the Difference Between Invention and Innovation?
Courtesy of Anne Edwards and Becky Butz
According to a dictionary definition, innovation is the introduction of something new (or as if new), something that deviates from established doctrine and practice. The act of creation, of making something new, is only the first step in a long path to historical change in materials and culture. What makes something innovative is not just that it is new, but that it takes root in some way, making changes in established cultures, doctrines, and practices, leading to historical significance.
The theme of innovation is one that requires depth of thinking, It is about examining ideas, methods, and inventions, and not merely about events and individuals. Students are expected to look at the need for change, how that change came about, the methods that were used to convince the public that it was necessary, and the impact it made. It’s not just the story of Eli Whitney and the invention of the cotton gin, Instead, it’s an explanation of why there was a need for the cotton gin, how people were encouraged to use the invention, and the impact it had on farming practices and the labor force. For instance, what happened to the slaves when they were replaced by the cotton gin?
Innovation implies much more than merely invention. Invention can be an aspect of innovation and, in fact, is often the first step in innovation. However, the crucial difference occurs between the relatively discrete creative act of invention and the far longer process of innovation. Innovation involves the process of convincing people to change their material or intellectual habits and replace old behaviors with new ones. Thus, the investigation of innovation inherently includes an examination of historical significance.
Historical context must also be included in an effort to understand how the innovation occurred and was implemented. Within this examination the consideration of innovation from the time and place may also be explored. An idea unearthed after being long buried or used in a new way may be innovative if applied to a new situation. For instance, consider Leonardo DaVinci’s invention of the helicopter. It was way before its time and thus was not an innovation during his lifetime. When times and technologies changed, and the idea of a helicopter could become a reality, it took hold and became an innovation.
Innovation also applies to the innovation of ideas: the divine right of kings or civil and human rights or scientific theories of heliocentrism or evolution or quantum theory. All of these were new when their proponents initiated movements in their favor.
Good student research will require examining prior precedents as part of the historical context. The innovation itself, the change of thought and/or actions, must be clearly delineated in the student entries. For example, if students want to trace nonviolent protest as an innovation, they will discover that it has a long and involved history. The origins are not in the 1960s, but with Christianity (turn the other cheek and the martyrs), Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience, and Gandhi. American Civil Rights should only be the tail end of such a discussion. Students would be much better off tracing the evolution of the sit‐in. Where does it originate? How does it evolve?

Here is an article from the AP to help answer your question:
KABUL — Afghan officials would face a daunting task in organizing a runoff presidential election before the arrival of winter – including hiring unbiased staff and securing polling stations in areas under threat of Taliban attack.
The problems are unlikely to end there. Even if the Afghans were to pull it off, there's no guarantee that another ballot – which seems increasingly probable – would produce a reliable partner for the U.S. and its allies in confronting the Taliban-led insurgency.
Election officials are expected to rule within days on fraud allegations over the Aug. 20 election. The vote was marred by charges of ballot-stuffing and voter coercion, mostly to the benefit of the incumbent, President Hamid Karzai.
Preliminary results show Karzai won with about 54 percent. But if the U.N.-backed Electoral Complaints Commission discards enough of the votes for Karzai, it could drop the president's total below 50 percent. That would force a runoff with the top challenger, Abdullah Abdullah.
The electoral tumult already has thrown the country into a political crisis and cast doubt on a key pillar of the NATO strategy in Afghanistan – partnering with a legitimate Afghan government capable of winning broad public support against the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies.
President Barack Obama is trying to decide whether to send in tens of thousands more U.S. troops and whether it is worth backing a government that has lost much of its legitimacy through corruption and alleged electoral fraud.
If the commission announces that Karzai does not have enough votes for a first-round win, Afghan law requires a runoff within two weeks. Election officials say it will take that long to prepare for a new vote.Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20091014/as-afghan-election/

Quinn the Eskimo (New Question)
Why do you think the US chose to go with more of a Representative Republic type government?
Dave (response to Quinn the Eskimo's question)
I think that the United states chose the represenative republic over a democracy because they didnt want the people overpowering the government and causing it to fall.
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
Just out of curiosity why does the Taliban attack elections or people who vote in Afgan?
Dave (unemployment)
My dad was recently laid off from Union Paciffic, he still gets unemployment for a couple of months but he said itll be tough couple of months. Around the same time last year my father got laid off from the same company and i am wondering why. Why do other people get to keep there jobs at the company and others get laid off???
Brickbat (Harley)
The United States is a representative republic. Each state is a part of the republic and each state is represented by elected officials to Congress. Each state has its own government and is an independent sovereign government under the supervision of the federal government. It would take some research to determine if England was a representative republic or not. When you figure it out, please let me know.
Brickbat (Banana Pancakes)
The first political cartoon said a lot about the feelings at the end of WW II. It was felt that an invasion of Japan would cost hundreds of thousands of lives and that the bomb would stop the war before the invasion was to take place. The Japanese had already made peace overtures through the Russians and the war would have probably ended before the dropping of the bombs, but we will never know. I do wonder if the bombs were dropped to see what their effect would be. Patience is always hard to find when dealing with the lives of those of our country and so the dropping of the bombs will always be a controversial decision.
The second cartoon deals with a lagging economic indicator. The stock market is always at least six to nine months ahead of job creation. The other problem we are having is that banks are leery of loaning money to small businesses, small businesses being the major employer in the U.S. It will be interesting to see at what point the jobs in the U.S. start to return. It is not a great time to be graduating from school or out of work.

Thanks for taking the time to vote on the kind of books you like to have in the library. We seem to check-out more fiction than non-fiction and so I order more of it. I do try to keep non-fiction up to date but it does not have the turn over that fiction has nor as many new books published in that catagory. But Keep Reading!!! LL

I'm not sure how much video games actually impact people as a whole...i really think it kind of depends on the person who is playing them, most of us are hopefully smart enough to realize not to do the stuff on bad video games, i don't really think just because they play the game and they do it in the game they will go out and do it in the real world unless they had already had some kind of intentions of doing it anyway in some way. and age really makes a difference also.
Haney Video games
I personally dont think that video games could corupt a kids mind because I grew up playing grand theft auto and I dont feel like killing people...I also grew up playing need for speed and I dont feel like racing illeagly and running form the cops...its all a matter over your mental ability so to conclude my point i am still somewhat civilized yet routinely playing video games.
Ally
i really dont know if it has an effect on younger kids or teens because i usually never do video games...
Senator.
Let me know if you find anything wrong with my thesis or if you have any ideas that would make it better. This is sort of just my starting point, I hope to add a few sentences etc.
Haney Thesis
So the toilet could be easily named the greatest innovation for many reasons, such as preventing disease, because fieces has many dieseases and having toilets takes that away because we flush it away.
Senator (My input for Haney and I's Thesis)
The toilet, a very eminent choice for one of the world's most important or greatest innovations of all time, serves the human race as a disease preventive, a ease of access waste outlet, and much more.

I think age/maturity is an important factor in your question. Young children cannot always differentiate reality from fiction. If people understand that this video game is purely entertainment, I think the effects are different from someone that may believe the content is real.

in today's world there really is no differents between violent video games and crime they could be considered the same thing. although many parents don't think that there children know what weapons are used and how some of the thing are done on the game, but many of the things that are being put in to the games are real weapon that the U.S. military use in combat. so if the child is in to a game that kills people and thing if in the right conditions that child could make a bad choice and they could start killing people and just think it is a video game. so under the right conditions that child could become a murderer becouse of that game
Brickbat (goober)
If I understand you correctly, playing violent video games causes the player to act out those crimes in real life. Do you really believe that if you play violent video games you will become a criminal?
koolkat (weird)
Did you know that KFC's honey is only 11% real? The other stuff is fake! Like the flavoring is artificial, it is mostly corn syrup and carmel coloring! That is pretty sad because honey is cheap. :(
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer (Brick Bat)
I agree with Stonekid, just because you play viloent video games doesn't mean that will be translated to reality. I mean kids play Grand Theft Auto all the time and if that theory was true wouldnt there be a very sharp increase in crime every year.
iceman(Brick Bat)
No it is not all video games some game like James bond and Grand Torino mite do that to you but it is most about how much stress you have and if you are crazy to do that and blame it in the video games.
John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Schimdt ( Thesis: Please edit )
Walls and fences have greatly advanced the human species and are arguably the most important innovation ever conceived.
Kalogas [BrickBat]
Violent vedio games can be a way to let agression out or make it worse. For some people it may make their agression worse and may lead them to a life crimes. On the other hand some people, like me may play them to calm down, so yes and no.
Goober(brickbat)
I belive that they commit the crime to act like they are the same people on the video so that they can be just like them.

Violent video games are played everyday throughout the whole world, but i don't believe what we are playing makes us do the things we do. Here is an examples of one crime that is committed buy kids that might play violent video games. School shooting, many people say this is a result of violent video game. But I believe the kids that do this is because they are picked on a lot at school, or things are not going right at home. I also find it hard to believe that a kid thinks. "Hey I played Grand Torino the other night and I killed all those people and got away with it, so I should be able to do it in real life." We know right from wrong, and if someone is gonna commit a crime they will have a reason to commit it.
Brickbat (I am curious)
What is the correlation between violent video games and crime? I know what is said in the media but I would like to have your perspective on the subject.

If people could do those things and do it right with out missing any thing up yes there would be a lack of that type of work. Although most people only know the basic knowledge of how to change and put in oil, power steering fluid and anti-freezes. In that regard they don't know how to do more deliberate work on a engine which give the mechanic more work and you have to under that many people do have engine problems more often then we know of. So there will still be plenty of work for a mechanic to do.
motor man (brickbat)
the problem with having the population double within 50 years and fossil fuel running low is that demand for goods is going to rise so fast that farmer will not be able to react in time and double there effort to keep up. with that being said it will be a big dilemma for the world future if we do not find a good alternative for fuel, and ways to keep the population at a manegeable number.

Since the beginning of time, flight has fasinated mankind, therefore there has been many different flying innovations including airplanes and the helicopter.

Creativity is relative. And I never spell anything wrong. Ever. But look at the attached for people who do. These photos are from the September 2009 March on Washington for Health Care. Do you think these are real or photoshopped? Why would someone doctor these photos and email them to a million people? I mean, besides being evil left wing crazies.

Why can't you be more creative ehh? Oh and welcome to the blog... Anyway beware of flying pencils and don't spell anything wrong or the Fab Five will attack you. Seriously.

I totally agree with you. At my family's buisness you can see that trend everytime you walk into the shop. The mechanics and engineers usually are men, ( even though we have had a woman ) and the book keepers and secretarys tend to be women.

I liked what you had to say about education. I do think that it also teaches us to expand our horizons. We live in a small part of the world and without education, we would not be able to know and understand the outside world. As the world becomes smaller, it is important for us to build our tolerance and knowledge of the things and people around us so that we can make wise decisions that will affect more than just ourselves and our tiny part of the world.

Great is the Sun and wide he goes,
Through empty heaven without repose.
And into the blue and glowing days,
More thick than rain he showers his rays.
Though closer still the blinds we pull,
To keep the shady parlor cool.
Yet he will find a chink or two,
To slip his golden fingers through.
The dusty attic spider-clad,
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad.
And through the broken edge of tiles,
Into the hay loft smiles.

I think there are several different things that are of basic importence in our education. I would agree with most of the previous posts that person-person and person-community interactions are definitely a large part of our education. Also encompassed in this is the ability to listen. Another thing to consider is learning processes (particularly in math you must learn a process --your answer might be wrong but if you did the process correctly you have a grasp of the process. Another important lesson for students is to follow orders. America is a structuralized society (as are most others) you have a boss, you follow the bosses orders or you get fired. During your education career you are expected to follow orders or there will be reprocussions this is preparing you for a future career.
Harley (Motorman)
I have a question for you. What would all the mechanics be doing if everybody had the knowledge and skills to service their own vehicles? Thus tearing down a tier in American society and also eliminating a card from the proverbial house of cards?

Harley (In response to Gender Affects Job)
Haha naturally I'm going to be the one on here saying that yes there are certain jobs that are better for women and certain jobs that are better for men. NOT saying that men/women wouldn't be capable of doing both jobs. Here are a few examples:
--Cosmetology-- more likely to be women
--Social Workers-- more likely to be women
--Construction Workers-- more likely to be men
--Interior Decorators-- more likely to be women
--Roughnecks-- more likely to be men
--Mechanics-- more likely to be men
Would you agree that there are jobs that just jive better with men and certain jobs that jive better with women? Again, I am NOT saying that women/men cannot do all jobs. Men were built to be able to handle more labor intensive jobs than women I will admit it. However, I feel (like in the Social Worker example) that women are built better emotionally (NOT saying guys aren't emotional but I think you'll understand what I mean) for jobs that require one-on-one discussions about emotions, etc.
----As for the discussion about being sued for gender discrimination: How would that work as you're running a private business? Wouldn't it be similar to turning a customer away? "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

Sadly I'm feeling some touches of Vietnam here. There doesn't seem to be any clear winner here and everybody is losing troops and citizens and money. I don't think that there is a black and white way to go about this. America cannot pull all our troops immediately from Afghanistan because it would topple some of the structure we've managed to build there. However, we cannot keep supplying troops and troops and troops. Also we are in our own little economic crisis here and we cannot financially afford to keep this up. Another major problem (or so I believe) that America faces in the conflict with Afghanistan is where does this end? Afghanistan? Iraq? Iran? Most of the mid-East countries are in complete turmoil and defy most American beliefs (government, religion, etc.) However, if nobody takes action is the mid-East going to turn out like many of the African nations where nobody controls anything but everybody wants control over everything?! This is truly a predicament!
Harley (In response to the Ron Paul Interview Video)
Wow! This totally made me think! As many of you know I consider myself to be a capitalist. Capitalism is an economic theory which stresses that control of the means of producing economic goods in a society should reside in the hands of those who invest the capital for production. It is a system based on the production of goods and services for exchange rather than use. Private ownership and free enterprise supposedly leads to more efficiency, lower prices, better products. Some questions I had in regard to the video were:
**Would having a smaller government make globalism or protectionism the better capitalistic choice in the long run?**
**If the federal reserve was ended, would it make the American dollar worth more? Thus making the capitalists in our society more money because products would be worth more?**
**Who or what was the Halliburton's? And what's the link to Ron Paul's book?**
Interesting things I hadn't considered. I didn't even know there was such a word as corporatism. Corporatism is the political system in which power is exercised through large organizations (businesses, trade unions, etc) working in concert with each other, under the direction of the state.

I've been thinking about music from the 1920's and I've came up with a few different thinks...maybe Glenn Miller, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Benny Goodman. Will you listen to a few and bounce some ideas off me. For my thesis I'm thinking maybe something about economic crisis/government being the influence for organized crime. Maybe "The All-American outlaw was society's response an unreasonable amendment set forth by Woodrow Wilson." Or in place of the president maybe just the government I'm not sure. Give me some feedback.

Greetings. I am from the Fleming 8th grade, in a rural school in northeastern Colorado, and working a project on the discovery of flight for the National History Day competition. I was wondering if I could interview you and get some information about the history of flight. Do you have any quality primary sources? Also, I would love to ask you some questions in an interview, possibly over the internet. Thank you for your time.

ya like me... i rather not have to change things that break down and sometimes i dont have the time to fix them. so it helps me save the time and energy by going to the Mechanics.
Ally (Paige)
yes i think i have heard of what happen on Oct. 30... i think its kind of funny that everyone believed him.
Paige (Motorman)
Well that is a trickier question. Some people just really aren't cut out to do the mechanics on their vehicle. It takes some kind of general understanding, schooling, or background from how you grew up, but even then people don't want to take the time to do it if they don't understand it enough or just don't want to. that's why we have mechanics though, it's a different concept than the little perks we get in our cars...this is kind of a necessity because some people can't or don't want to change the oil or diagnose what is wrong with the engine, ect.
librarylady
I am just checking out your blog. I have never blogged before and want to know how to do it. It looks like fun. It will be nice to see what everyone is thinking.
motor man (brick bat, john jacob )
in certain circumstances people should all way have a right to Argue or defend their case. then there is a circumstances that I think you should have a choose in. if your client had been in a suspect in a second degree murder 5 times I think that you should be able to decline that persons wishes to having you as their attorney be then you should have enough integrate to not bad mouth that person and there case
motor man (paige)
I agree with that statement that the unnecessary fetchers of a car are not need. they do make thing easier for us but at the same point it does make us lazier because we don't have to put a cooler in or we don't have to freezes our but off but that is the part of the cars of to day that makes people lazy.
then what are your thought on how a normal person is supposed to be able to service their own car and not have to take it to the mechanic and pay to have it serviced?
He or she still should have a fair trial even if you know he/she is guilty because if he or she had a twin bother or sister who killed or took millions of $$$$$, then it is not or it can be the men or girl that you have or do not have to charge with the crime. If you do the crime you do the time. if you do not do the crime you should not have to do the time
John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Schmidt ( Brick Bat )
Yes, lawers should have to defend suspects that they even know are quilty because it is a right every citizen of the United States has. Even when you get arrested, they read you your rights which include the right to an attorney. Also, it is in the constitution that a criminal be judged by a jury of his/her peers. If an attorney just decided that he wasnt going to defend his client cause he "felt" that he was quilty that would look bad for that person, especially if he was innocent. Also you might have a case that no one would defend a man due to the overwhelming amount of evidence against them. There could be cases like in the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" where no one wanted to defend the man because of his race and it pitted one mans word against another's.
Brick bat (Banana pancake)
It would not be a bad idea to take time off and let everyone get well. The problem it creates concerns the number of days we must be is school. If we miss more days than we have available snow days, we must make them up. If we stay in school, the illness is passed around and we build up an immunity to it and will not have a problem with it for the rest of the year. This is a situation that has no great solutions. All we can do is take our best shot and hope we made the correct decision.
Brick bat (John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Schmidt)
You bring up a very good question in talking about the Boston Massacre. Should lawyers have do defend a person even though they know he/she is guilty?

Finding out if you can change something is a good way to start. It is definitely beneficial to view sources you find in the article or blog. It is also good to look at sites that are given in the sources. We know that on the web, anybody can say anything and that they can find someone that agrees with them and lists them as a source. There is an old saying, "figures don't lie but lyers figure."
Brick bat (paige)
The War of the Worlds, even though it was stated that it was a story and not a real news release, confused many people. Radio was the media of the day and people listened to radio much like we watch tv today. This broadcast caused more than just people to board up their houses. There were many that admitted to affairs and were divorces. Armed mobs took to the streets and looked for Martians. There were even a few suicides. Because of all of the problems the broadcast caused, there were never any other programs like this put on the air. You can still find the program, probably on the net, and it is well worth listening to.

When I am looking for information on the web, I look to see if the web site allows me to edit the info given, if it does allow this. Anyone can get on it and mess with the info. This may mean that not all of the info is true. I also check and see if they have listed any of their sources. Doing this allows me to know the info I am putting down on paper is reliable.

Yea? Well I don't like him, his statement seems hypocritical. He makes fun of YouTuber's while mos tlikely expecting children to watch that very video on YouTube. Wow.
Existentialism
Existentialism – A DefinitionExistentialism in the broader sense is a 20th century philosophy that is centered upon the analysis of existence and of the way humans find themselves existing in the world. The notion is that humans exist first and then each individual spends a lifetime changing their essence or nature.
Paige (political song)
http://www.cmt.com/videos/toby-keith/426849/american-ride.jhtml This is my political song. American Ride- Toby Keith. I agree with this song the most because it's more of a patriotic song, and it really explains what is happening in the U.S. It tells about all the things that America is turning to or becoming, if it's good or bad not really sure, but it's not the usual American way. We are changing a lot in that we can't be the same because all these other political views are coming into play so like it says, "don't get caught singing christmas carols", someone might just get affended because we call it christmas. So I guess I'm a protectionist. "hate me if you want to, love me if you can" from the song Love Me If You Can-Toby Keith.

ok so i tried to show the pictures but it didnt happen... the meal of the day would be a turkey and ham wrap with a vanilla carmel frap with whip cream. yummm
John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Schmidt ( Boston Massacre )
The boston massacre began when a group of rowdy colonists from Boston were grouped around a small, armed squad of British soldiers. There were high tensions between the two parties and the colonists showed their dislike by flinging snowballs at the troops. Even though the soldiers had extremely specific orders not to fire or engade the crowd, a slaughtering took place after a single soldier shot a man who hit him with a snowball which contained rocks. After the man took the shot, the rest of the troops opened fire thinking that they were given the order to open fire. During the trial of the troops and the captain of the soldiers, John Adams defended the British soldiers. He was defending law and order because the colonists had been yellin fire and also hurling snowballs at the troops. This case angered both side because civilians were killed on the colonists side and the British troops got off the hook without punishment. The British were angred because the trial that was held was unfair and unjust.

So my meal of the day is...Auqafina Lemon Water, Macaroni and Cheese with hot dog slices. My desert is Frozen Hot Chocolate from the Human Bean, followed by one of their chocolate covered espresso beans(NO Coffee).
Ally (Question of the day)
i guess that it can swing either way... say for ex. cooking. men and women can both do that as a job.
Paige (Quinn)
I think that there are some jobs that one gender can do better than the other, and those jobs are usually because of the differences in the way men and woman are built. Sometimes men can do more physically intense labor jobs, like construction, because of how men are made in the first place. If that makes any sense...
John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Schmidt (Gender Question)
Having the knowledge of how a buisness is run, I know that you cannot be sued for hiring a certain gender. If a buisness is sued for this it, is easy to fight in court because you can simply say that the person you hired had the better requirements for the job. I don't think there is any jobs that are specifically for a certain gender. I just believe that women and men have different interests in the type of job they take and that is the reason for the segregation. Either gender can work for any buisness if they have the education and training required.
Quinn the Eskimo (Question of the Day)
Sorry I am absent today. Virginia is sick, so it's my turn to stay home with her.
Your deep question of the day is......
Are there jobs that one gender can do, in general, better than the other gender? If so, why does this happen? Be nice to each other, and have a good day!

Ally, just for future knowledge (etc.) men and women aren't truthfully fighting for our freedom, for we are essentially one of the most free countries on the earth.

Ally (Quinn)
I have to kind of agree with Paige... I dont know what is really going on in the war. All I'm going to say is that there are men and women who are fighting for OUR country to stay free and safe. I have no clue what would happen if we pulled out so soon.
Paige (Quinn
I don't really know what is going on with war in whatever country we are in...but I want to know if we pull out now if they are just going to retaliate on us..
Anne (Quinn)
I think if we are going to go to war we need to have a reason. I'm not exactly informed to the utmost extent about our other worldly wars but I do know a couple issues that may influence whether we stay in or pull out. If there really isn't anymore reason to stay and fight in Afganistan, then the correct ethical thing to do is to pull out. However, we are creating a pattern and digging ourselves a hole. America is getting a reputation for coming into a war and tearing its civilization to pieces then abandoning them. If we continue with this pattern, we could be setting ourselves up for one giant terrorist hit or even another World War. So technically I guess there is no right answer. We just need to commit to one decision...no wishy washy stuff...and let the chips fall.

Ok so I have a new question for everyone. Respond if you like. With all the sickness going around right now what would be a more reasonable option? To just let kids leave school when they feel sick or get a tempature over 100 degrees, or to take a three day sick day for the entire school and basically say everyone needs to stay at home and home alone for the next three days, by doing this it should truthfully break the cycle of sickenss and then everyone could return to school at least a little better.
Paige (brickbat, motor man)
Well obviously cars today have evolved so much over the years, but are we to the point now that they are just going to make us even more lazier? You can turn the car on with the touch of a button, we have built in GPSs, heated seats?!, some even have tables, and built in storage fridges or heating things! Or does all this make us safer? I know air bags and seat belts make us safer, but does it really make things any easier if we already have things that do those things for us. We already have things that can keep our beverages cool for the short time it takes us to drink them. Just take your own cooler for crying out loud! I just don't thing all the new things are necessary. Cool, but not necessary
Brick bat (new question)
When you look up information on the web, how can you tell if it is reliable information or unreliable information?
in some of those regards yes the cars of today are superior to the cars of the past but some of those past cars had thought put in to them so they would be safe in the years to come and a few of those cars where bad on gas milege yes but the technology of today can help improve that they are making parts that are adaptable to those old cars to make them run more effectively and cleaner then it originally did

I believe the cars of today are superior to those of the past. In the past, cars were not as efficient as they are today. They were not as safe as they are today. When I was young, seat belts were not in use or consisted of a lap belt that would almost cut you in half in a collision. There were no air bags and some of the vehicles would blow up if hit from the rear. We get better milage with less polution than we did in the past. I feel that innovations in technology will allow us to use fewer resources with greater efficency and allow us to drive safer vehicles then before. You can't stop progress and I wouldn't if I could

Whoa! Haha every time I think I've finally caught up there's like five zillion posts before I can get mine blogged haha. Okay random comment of the day. Does anybody know anything about Switzerland? Switzerland is a country that will rent you a bank box where you can store your priceless stolen goods, Switzerland is a country of excellent cheese, chocolate, and watches. Switzerland is possibly the awesomest country for skiing, and Switzerland remains neutral in all matters of war (except when protecting their borders from invasion). I've been on sabbatical for a while --for anyone who isn't quite sure what that means, a sabbatical is a period away from your normal routine, a time to immerse yourself in a different environment, a chance to see your life from a different perspective. Okay first things first. Welcome to the blog! For any of our newcomers. It's totallyconfusing to have go from a blog formerly of five to a blog of around twelveish so please stick to one name. I don't particularly care if you introduce yourself with your real name(Kalogas) I'm not to worried about somebody thinking to look for a few kids from Fleming on a random blog site but whatever. Ally please quit the super short posts about people not introducing themselves because it's just cluttering up this already chaotic blog. If you don't know who someone is and they won't have the good grace to tell you simply ignore them. There's nothing here making you read people's blogs. To Cardboard Box: who is cardboard box? Our topics for discussion thus far have been time/relativity, art/creativity, religion/faith, and strides into the future (I.E. new types of cars, oil, learning, etc.) We've covered nationalism, protectionism, and globalism as well. Please vent your opinions but please don't directly intend to offend.
Just some of my final thoughts on the argument/discussion about suffering. I'm going to try and be brief here because frankly I think that talking about suffering is depressing and sometimes can make the suffering worse.
--Senator--"You have so much potential! Brilliance and the ability to apply it strive for what you want!"
--Anne (please don't shoot me)--I have only one question: "MUST WE TAKE CARE OF EVERYONE?" (sorry I didn't mean to yell <3)
--Quinn (everyone)--I would like to propose the idea that maybe suffering is a state of mind rather than a state of being? In Senator's example he feels set back by the state of his family's finances whereas in your example you take a very different stance. So perhaps when you have less material items are you more likely to appreciate people and their influences in you life? What do you guys think?
--Banana Pancakes--If I were you I wouldn't presume to tell someone whether or not they are suffering if you yourself have not been in exactly the same situation. Just something to consider.
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: I liked your statement about computers having a copy of every book in the future thus making books obsolete. I think you should look into a book called "Fahrenheit 451" which is a Ray Bradbury story about firemen who are trained to destroy books. You might like it. After reading this I think that Ray Bradbury might have had quite a bit of insight into how our society will eventually become.
Kalogas: Interesting perspective but I have only one question. "Do we truely know what was as nobody was around to see the makings of the universe?" I know you're much more religiously inclined than I am so I don't ever mean to insult.
Senator: I laughed so hard about the Breakfast Buffet comment =) (sorry Banana Pancakes but it totally made my day).
Ally/Quinn: When do you consider faith/religion to become extreme and how do you base extremism?
Goober/Brick Bat: So since most people here would agree that technology is steadily taking over our lives should we have a global language at least in the world of technology?
Bill Joe: What precisely are you talking about?
Goober: So maybe having a large incredibly accessible internet source for research might be a bad thing? Especially considering that a lot of people know how to manipulate information that is public on a website. So maybe books remain a better source for research because it's easier to pinpoint false documents?
Banana Pancakes: Quick question. How can you have a yell fest over a blog? Written words?
Stonekid/Brick Bat: I agree with Stonekid about the current state of the oil industry. I also agree that we're going to need to look into renewable resources fairly soon. I have a question to pose however about foreign oil. Now that Bush is no longer in the white house do you think we'll be able to repair our relationship with Venezuela? Doesn't Venezuela have a fairly huge amount of oil resources?
Brick Bat: I think that people are born with an essential goodness. However, as Senator also commented, the environment a child is faced with will shape them incredibly. A child born into an upright family has a lower chance of a child born onto the streets of becoming evil. Is goodness or evilness simply an inbalance in the brain? Some sort of chemical wrongness like depression or schizophrenia? Or is it a matter of the soul? I think that humans are so vastly complex that maybe this question cannot be answered.

Banana Pancakes (Brick Bat)
I dont have much time to post, but my answer is that people are inherantly good. I will explain at a later date.
Senator to Brick Bat (in reply to your question.)
Inherently as in one recieves good or evil genes at birth? No. However, I do believe that any one being's mind and train of thought is shaped and highly influenced by their inherited enviroment. This statement may be interpreted as my agreement, however I am not agreeing just simply throwing out another idea. If one's parents are evil and lead horrible lives, yet they are adopted and turn out to be great folks is where my disagreement shines through. I believe that one's "evil and good scale" can also be self-interpreted, in the sense that one who comes from struggle, addiction, etc. could use this as a motivative force to succeed. Modern America tends to look at those who grow up in religious communities as good, yet a many serial killers who are generally categorized as evil are prompted to kill and perform evil deeds due to misconception of the Bible or other religious books.
I will now present my 2nd argument or Plan B for this question. Many quote "Money is evil." or "Money is the root of all evil.", when money is inherited. I for one, and most likely plenty others would say that those who are born into money (large, filthy amounts) are not forced to strive for what success and money they achieve. Many then move on to be evil and cruel business/political leaders whom care less for the good of the people and more for the well being of a business or bank account (evil).

Maybe people don't want to give their real name, because everyone see it, it is the WORLD WIDE WEB (www).blogger.com, and so people all over the world who like to search blogs can see every ones names on the blog and that's way I don't use my real name and that could be why others don't use their real names. So don't be mad at that, because it is a little thing and mostly a security thing.
goober(new question)
You could never trust a website because the website could be wrong. For example Wikipedia it is sometimes right but you can change the words so that it's wrong and then people trust that website and it goes on and on. When you ask a good question you must know the answer you get is a fib or the truth. With the answer you get you have to be able to know if the is good or bad question.

When we run out of oil we will use the sun, wind, and water power. To run are car's and your home.
Brick bat (ally)
Louis Carrol (author of Alice in Wonderland) said that a word can have any meaning the person who used it said it should have. This "I believe" also applies to names. When we are on the electronic highway, we can be anyone we want to be. It is our responsibility to make sure we do not hurt anyone on purpose and try to be as honest as we can be. It doesn't matter who I am as long as I treat you and everyone else with respect. I am sorry that not knowing who I am upsets you but it is my contention that who I really am is not as important as what I have to say. If you must know who I really am, ask Mr. Conn.
Banana Pancakes (Stonekid & the Fab Five)
Stonekid: I agree one hundred and fifteen percent on the fact that we arent going to run out of oil shortly. I also agree that we need to form a backup plan right now, but instead of waiting to put it into action I think that we need to put into action ASAP. If we dont figure something out then sure we will then be left without energy at some point wwaaayyy down the road. In my personal opinion i do think that we need to purly shift to all renewable resources and we need to break off all our connection to foerign oil.
The Fab Five: Ok, first off please identify yourself. that is currently the major problem on this blog is that everyone is posting but they are not identifying themselves. This goes for more than
just Fab Five, eveyrone who hasnt identified themselves please do so ASAP. People are getting angry and this is turing out to be a yelling fest otherwise. On another note, my misspellings are just one more example of how you dont have to be able to spell in the 21st century. If it really mattered I could simply use a spell checker. You dont have to be able to spell 100% perfect in this new "flat" world. So go ahead and keep correcting me if you like, it doesn't matter to me, but just remember that you dont have to spell perfectly in this new century.

I believe you are correct in that there is no time to wait. We need to find the finances needed to increase our search for the next viable energy sources. The price of oil will only go up and oil accounts for a large share of our imports. Our imports far outpace our exports creating a deficit that will cause our dollar to decrease in value. We must also deal with foreign countries that have no love for us. It will be the generation in school now that must deal with the ramification of our energy policy. Good luck.
stonekid (banana pancakes)
Trust me, I am not worried about the oil resources and wondering if their gonna run out anytime soon. I have a father and two brother in the oil filed that remind me of this almost everyday. But we also should have a good back up plan for when the day does comes, so we are prepared and not left in the stone ages, because we have no reliable resource of energy to tap into.

I agree that there are a lot of people who are on here so people would likely to get hurt more often..

Is this the approach we should take to addressing how to learn in the 21st century? Correct answers are a click away; however, creative answers, or better yet questions, could change our world.

Paige (the oil thing)
Algae will be the next oil...the algae can produce a natural oil about 3 times daily, they don't make emission, and they actually eat emissions, and really all they need is a big tank of water and sunlight. You can get a lot of algae all at once so think about how much oil we could get and how much of the emissions we could get ride of if we could convert to algae, but you might have to pay more to convert, and another hybrid would probably have to be made. I don't know how benefitial it would be, but it would help the enviroment if the idea was completely up and running.
Senator @ Banana Waffles
You are going to offend at least one person no matter what topic we are on. There is too large of a group for you to be laying down oyur opinion so strongly, therefore people get offended and offensive.
Banana Pancakes (stonekid)
I bileve that again we need to stop worring about the furtue and when our resources run out what will we do, we need to start just using those resources now. I do bielve these resources will include things such as wind and thermoelectric power. On the other hand my current science fair project is looking to collecting lighting to harness as a power source, so i do bileve that things that we have no control over right now may soon be turned into something of awe and fear into raw energy to feed our ever growing hunger for energy.
Banana Pancakes (last question)
I think that the videos are very true, however i am not scared of what can happen in the furture, cause i have no control of it. If we live in constant fear of the furtue then we as a human species are quite possibly doomed. We need to learn to take each and every single event as it comes to us, then we need to make a decision, and then move on to the next event, which is a result of the previous event and our decision. I think the best way we can prepare for beling literate in the 21st century is to do just what we are doing right now! Instead of having the conventional calss room with a marker board and desks soon we will be doing course work like I will be taking from a college next fall, through the internet. Everything will be turned in electronically and class discussions take place on forums similar to this. I do bielve this is just what we need to be transitioning to in most of our classes. I truthfully think the best way a teacher can prepare a student for the full blown effects of the 21st century is to let the student to have serious freedom in the class room as to projects the student does. As long as the student is challanged all the time and is exposed to the electronics then the teacher will be teaching the student not only for the furture, but also for the 21st century.
jerk (stonkid)
As the oil supply runs out we will start to use our natural resources more like the sun and wind. we could also use fission witch is the splitting of atoms. when we split atoms they let off heat and energy which can be used in electricity and heat for homes.
motor man (brick bat)
we should not stop trying to make advancements in vehicles, but we should keep thing a little less complected. It makes things difficult for mechanics that are still in tranning. when they get out of college the stuff they have learned is almost out dated by that time. If we should make advancements in the vehicles of today, it might be in making what we have run better and run more efficient and last longer and preform well even when that car is 30 years old.
