Quinn the Eskimo (New Question)

It sounds like President Obama is deciding if we should stay or leave Afganistan. What do you think we should do?

    A few details to consider:

    No country has successfully invaded and controlled Afganistan. For example, Afganistan basically broke the USSR in the 80's.

    We have been in Afganistan for about eight years.

    It sounds like the only way to succeed is to give weapons and money to local tribes amd increase the troops by 10's of thousands.

    Afganistan may have not had a fair election a month ago, and, to succeed we would need work with this government.

    Sadly I'm feeling a little Vietnam here. There doesn't seem to be any clear winner here and everybody is losing troops and citizens and money. I don't think that there is a black and white way to go about this. We cannot pull all our troops immediately because it would topple some of the structure we've been trying to build in Afganistan. However, we cannot keep supplying and supplying troops and troops and troops. Another major problem we face is where does this end? Afganistan? Iraq? Iran? Most of the mid-East countries are in complete turmoil and defy most American beliefs (government, etc.) Thou, if nobody takes action is the mid-East going to turn out like many of the African nations where nobody controls anything but everybody wants control over everything? This is a predicament! -HQ
