Brickbat (Banana Pancakes)

The first political cartoon said a lot about the feelings at the end of WW II. It was felt that an invasion of Japan would cost hundreds of thousands of lives and that the bomb would stop the war before the invasion was to take place. The Japanese had already made peace overtures through the Russians and the war would have probably ended before the dropping of the bombs, but we will never know. I do wonder if the bombs were dropped to see what their effect would be. Patience is always hard to find when dealing with the lives of those of our country and so the dropping of the bombs will always be a controversial decision.

The second cartoon deals with a lagging economic indicator. The stock market is always at least six to nine months ahead of job creation. The other problem we are having is that banks are leery of loaning money to small businesses, small businesses being the major employer in the U.S. It will be interesting to see at what point the jobs in the U.S. start to return. It is not a great time to be graduating from school or out of work.
