As far as "suffering" goes, you are a class act man.
In response to your other question, I think that relgion and science do not need to agree. What biblical text claims to be an authority of history or science? On the other hand, what science promotes the golden rule or love? Science and religion, in mind at least, can coexist because they serve different purposes.
