Social Studies Inquiry- Thesis Part I
Directions:
1. Go to http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/ and check out the various options and rules you have. This would be great information to put onto your thinking triangle..
2. Read about this year’s theme. Please notice what student’s must ask, “Students must ask:
A. Not only what the innovation was, but why did it matter?
B. What factors contributed to the innovation’s development?
C. What was the innovation’s lasting influence in history?
D. How did this innovation change the course of events?
E. What effect did the innovation have on the community, society, nation and world?
3. Answer the above five questions in a thoughtful manner. You should
include at least three primary sources, add those to your bibliography,
and annotate in Turbian Humanities. You may use http://www.bibme.org/ if
you need help.
4. Consider the following rubric:
40 points (Advanced):
Student answers the five questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. Student cites and annotates at least five new sources including four primary sources.
30 points (Proficient):
Student answers the five questions thoughtfully. Student cites and annotates at least three new primary sources.
20 points (Partly Proficient):
Student answers the three to four questions thoughtfully. Student cites and annotates at least two new primary sources.
10 points (Unsatisfactory):
Student answers the one to two questions thoughtfully. Student cites and annotates at least one new primary source.
