You guys are close. Adams kept Washington's cabinent in place. By the time Adams took office, the cabinent was divided into two groups. Those that liked Alexander Hamilton and those that like Thomas Jefferson. The Hamiltonains wanted a strong federal government, a big military, high taxes, and war with France. The Jeffersonians wanted a small federal government, a smaller militray, lower taxes, and no war with France. Adams agreed more with the Hamiltonians, but he didn't trust Hamilton. He and Jefferson were once close friends, but at this period they did not like each other. They also really disagreed about piolitics. -QE
