Selling Radio(summary for Mr. Conn from paige[amber]))
The first radio station began in 1920 and advertising started in 1934, and so far in my book I have basically learned a lot about the commercialization of radios and about the radio channels. After the development of the radio, manufacturers didn’t really have a way to put them together and sell them so they just sold the parts and people at home had to assemble them themselves. The radio signals didn’t go very far and a lot of the times people could only catch parts of what they were saying because signals weren’t strong. A contest called “How Far Have You Heard?” started. The Radio Broadcast magazine told people to send them a letter and they had to tell them how far they got their radio to reach. This could determine who had that best radio. There were many protests over the radio when it first came out so that really determined what was heard over the radio.
