A Letter to the Mock Trial Team

Dan, as President of the Larimer County Bar Association, I want to thank you and your students for again making the trip to the Northern Regional High School Mock Trial Competition. The Regional Competition is co-sponsored by the Weld and Larimer County Bar Associations, one of the few events these two neighboring Bars sponsor together each year. Your support for the program is essential to its continuing success. Your students have the distinction of being the only school outside of Fort Collins to regularly participate in this event, even though it is open to all of the schools in the region (including Greeley, Windsor, Loveland, Berthoud, Sterling, etc.). As such, your students stand out as dedicated, energetic and consistent supporters of this program. You travel the farthest, spend the most on lodging, and make the most sacrifices, when considering the distance you travel each year. This dedication is not lost on the Competition sponsors. We thank you for taking your entire weekend to join us for the competition, and we are grateful for the chance to know Fleming's finest. High School Mock Trial is unique. It recognizes students for their brains and their mouths, as opposed to their speed on the football field. The kids you bring to this competition are the best and the brightest your community has to offer. As a coach, I see this every time I attend a Mock Trial event - - these are our future leaders, spokespersons and advocates. Your encouragement stands as a testament to the important role the law plays in our society. These students understand how the law works, as opposed to how television portrays how the law works. This experience is by far the best way for Fleming's youth to understand a complex system that weaves through all human pursuits in some way or another. Please let this serve as my personal invitation that you continue to bring your students to the Regional Competition. They get better every year. They are more professional every year. They bring great pride to your community every year. I hope to see you next February. Ian D.
